November to February is the most comfortable time for walking barefoot around large temple complexes. From March the stone floors get very hot by late morning. Big festivals, such as Karthigai Deepam at Tiruvannamalai (November–December), are memorable but bring heavy crowds and higher hotel rates, so book early if you plan around them.
