Pondicherry lies on a flat coastal plain, so there are no waterfalls in or near the town. To see one you need to head west to the Eastern Ghats hills around Yercaud and Yelagiri, to the Kaveri at Hogenakkal, or further to the Western Ghats hill stations. Waterfalls on a weekend trip
Kiliyur Falls, a short drive from Yercaud (about 237 km from Pondicherry), forms where water from the Yercaud area drops into the valley. Reaching the base involves a steep path with steps, which can be slippery in the wet months.
Jalagamparai Falls is in the hills near Yelagiri (about 241 km). It is seasonal and depends on the northeast monsoon, so it is usually at its best from around November to January and can be almost dry in summer.
