The Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirumala, in the Seven Hills above Tirupati, is one of the most visited Hindu shrines in the world. From Pondicherry it is a long but straightforward drive, and a car with driver makes it far easier than juggling buses and trains around a fixed darshan time.
This two-day tour pairs Tirumala with the Sripuram Golden Temple near Vellore, which sits almost exactly on the way, and the Padmavathi temple at Tiruchanur. You book your own darshan with TTD; we plan the drive around it.
Book your darshan first
Darshan at Tirumala is managed by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Special Entry Darshan and most sevas are booked in advance through the official portal, ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in, and quotas are released in batches and often fill quickly. We do not sell or promise darshan tickets. Book your slot first, then share the date and time with us so we can fix the departure from Pondicherry.
Carry the same photo ID you used when booking. Rules, quotas and reporting points change from time to time, so check the latest information on tirumala.org before you travel. Free (Sarva) darshan is also possible without booking, but waiting times can run into many hours, which makes a two-day plan hard to guarantee.
Dress code at Tirumala
TTD asks men to wear a dhoti or pyjama with an upper cloth, and women a saree, half-saree with blouse, or churidar with pyjama and upper cloth. Jeans, shorts and similar western wear can lead to being turned away at the queue, even with a ticket. Keep the change of clothes in a small bag so you can dress at the hotel before the drive up. Mobile phones, cameras and bags are not taken into the temple, so plan to leave them in the car or at the deposit counters.

The Sripuram Golden Temple stop
Sripuram, run by the Sri Narayani Peedam trust, was consecrated in August 2007. The shrine of Sri Lakshmi Narayani is covered in gold foil, and you reach it along a star-shaped path laid out through gardens, with quotations on boards along the way. Darshan hours are 8 am to 8 pm at the time of writing. Modest clothing is expected, and phones and cameras are usually deposited before entry. General entry is free; a paid queue is available at busy times.
Who this tour suits
Families and groups of pilgrims who have a confirmed darshan slot and want a private car door to door. It also suits elderly travellers who find overnight buses tiring, since the car can stop whenever needed. The long drive on Day 2 is the main effort; if your slot is late in the day, we suggest adding a second night in Tirupati.
Best time to go
Tirumala is busy all year. Weekends, school holidays, the Tamil month of Purattasi (September–October) and the annual Brahmotsavam festival bring the heaviest crowds. November to February is the most comfortable season for the drive. If you can choose, a weekday slot is usually easier.
